HISTORY

Historic Australian Country Hotel, 33 minutes from Mudgee via Windeyer Road and hill End Road.

The Gold and Fleece Hotel was built in 1911 on a site of an older Inn. Windeyer was a prominent gold mining town during the mid-19th Century. Originally known as Richardsons Point. In 1859 the area was formally named as the Village of Windeyer. History articles say Windeyer was likely named after either Charles Windeyer a Sydney Magistrate or Richard Windeyer, a barrister and politician in around 1806-1847.

Gold was first discovered in Windeyer in 1851 and as the locals tell you – Gold is still found by fossicking in Windeyer today!

Preservation and Legacy

The Gold and Fleece Hotel remains a cherished landmark in Windeyer. It continues to serve as a gathering place, preserving the stories and spirit of a bygone era. The hotel's enduring presence offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of New South Wales' history.
